Careful watching: Barrett's esophagus by itself isn't dangerous, but it can be a premalignant lesion. In some circumstances it can be surgically removed, but most often if there is no "dysplasia" in the biopsy it is treated with anti-acid medications and is carefully followed by repeat egd on a 6 month or yearly basis. If you haven't had your egd yet you don't know that's the diagnosis, it can only be made by egd.

Follow up biopsy: See what the biopsy shows before you get worried about barrett's. Most people with gerd do not get it - probably on the order if less than 10% at most.
