A member asked:

Are lymph nodes removed during a cosmetic breast reduction? do they leave them be? can they tell the difference? im interested in getting one but after watching youtube geez louise. i would just worry if they take them with all the extra tissue.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Breast surgery ?'s: A cosmetic breast reduction at age 53 should include a pre-operative digital mammogram or a bilateral MRI of breasts if the patient has a strong family history of breast cancer. The actual surgery does not involve removal of sentinel or other lymph nodes, which are of course important for later surveillance to evaluate breast cancer if detected in remaining breast tissue.
