Recently my right lower first molar hurts a little bit. when i press on the gum, it hurts. i also grind at night so can grinding be the cause of this gum pain?

It's Possible: But without knowing what treatment that tooth has received thus far and an examination with a radiograph, it is impossible to say for sure. If you are grinding that hard you should really have a bruxism guard professionally fabricated. It's a lot less expensive than having broken, damaged teeth restored or replaced.
