Always?...: Life is not exact. One sign or symptom doesn't always lead to the same diagnosis. If a doctor says portal hypertension means liver cirrhosis, he doesn't mean cirrhosis is the cause 100% of the time. When thinking about the cause, we can look at it as a plumbing problem. Something is blocking the blood flow in the portal vessels. The doctors will investigate to see where the blockage is.
