A member asked:

In a tongue biopsy, how painful is the anesthetic needle?i heard that the tongue is the most painful area to get an injection. is it true?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Varies among doctors: If the patient is very calm and cooperative, the doctor may be able to use numbing gel to numb up the tongue where he or she will stick the needle. Then, the injection and biopsy shouldn't hurt. It probably will hurt afterwards, when the anesthesia wears off. Putting numbing gel on it afterwards makes it easy to unintentionally bite the same spot... which is probably not going to help things.
