Time for a recheck: A severe headache that has not improved after 36 hours of medication likely needs a medical recheck. If symptoms are severe, the ER may be a better place for a recheck, because more can be done at an ER, such as a head scan or an urgent consultation by an on-call neurologist. The disadvantage of going to an ER is that the ER usually does not know him like his pediatrician does.
