Depends on details: Lots of people have murmurs. Sometimes murmurs come and go. Sometimes one doctor can hear the murmur while another cannot. How soon one needs a cardiologist exam (as cost is an issue in this case) depends on what the GP is worried the murmur might mean. Thus, the patient can ask the GP how urgent the situation is. Maybe it is very urgent. Maybe it can wait a few weeks or months. Details matter.
