I know valium and ativan are in the same class of drugs, but are the effects of each different or more or less the same? dentist won't rx ativan, which i've had before, for wisdom tooth appt., but will rx valium, which i've never taken.

Valium/Ativan effect: I understand your concern as you have not taken Valium before. Both Valium and Ativan are in the same class of medication-Benzodiazapines. Both help with Anxiety It is OK to take Valium for Anxiety for short term. Discuss with your Dentist the dose of Valium for Anxiety and its equivalent dose of Ativan which you have taken before. Use: • Breathing Relaxation • Meditation • Visual Imagery
