How to test add in child age 17?

Begin with his doc: A person functions at their best level when they have had adequate sleep,are well nourished, are healthy and in a stable comfortable environment.ADD is a hard label to accept if it was not evident at a treatable level by age 6. A full evaluation by his doc would be a way to start & they can decide if further testing is needed & who can do it. I don't trust docs who treat without proper evaluation
