A member asked:

My neighbors small dog nipped at me and broke the skin. it bled only a very small amount and thoroughly cleaned it with soap and water and used neosporin. is any further action required? do i need to worry about rabies?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Variables apply: Is the dog fully immunized against rabies? Is the dog an indoor pet or spending unsupervised time outside? Does your county health department note rabies in the region? Even small bites can be a rabies issue if the dog is unimmunized, exposed to wild animals in a region where surveillance notes rabies activity. A call to the local health department may be worthwhile.
