Antibiotics: No, antibiotics will not make an infection worse. Why do you think there are so many different antibiotics? It's because there are so many different strains of bacteria, and certain antibiotics may control one type of bacteria and have no effect on others. Apparently when you had your tooth abscess the better choice for that specific infection was Clindamycin, not Amoxicillin.

2 possibilities: 1) It was the wrong antibiotic for your infection.unfortuately Practitioners don't have the days available to lab test their antibiotic choice to test effectiveness, so they make an educated decision. Sometimes the bugs and drugs just don't match, so a switch is in order. 2) You may have had an allergic response to the antibiotic.
