Not just one type: There is not just one specialty that works with patients with Autism. Early on it tended to fall under the care of Psychiatrists but we now realize it is a neurodevelopmental disorder that can affect multiple systems including the immune system, gastrointestinal and endocrine. Physicians such as Family Practice, Pediatrics or Neurologists may " specialize" in working with these patients.
