Elevated: Lp(a) upper limit of normal is 30mg/dL. Lp(a0 is increase in association with estrogen, hypercholesterolemia, hypothyroidism, uncontrolled diabetes, renal failure and nephrotic syndrome. Elevated levels are associated with atherosclerosis and this is the main reason for its use in cardiac screening. Need to be more aggressive with modifying risk factors: no smoking, exercise, diet etc.
