Prolotherapy: Prolotherapy is also known as "proliferation therapy, " "regenerative injection therapy, "or "proliferative injection therapy". It involves injecting a non-pharmacological and non-active irritant solution into the body, generally in the region of tendons or ligaments for the purpose of strengthening weakened connective tissue and alleviating musculoskeletal pain.

Not sure: Since there are no major studies on it , difficult to answer , but as with any injection , risk of infection / contamination from virum / or allergic reaction can be all side effects ; and if the doctor misses the injection point , it could cause more damage in the joint.

What is prolotherapy? Is it safe? Is it effective?

Safe: Prolotherapy is used by trained musculo-skeletal physicians to address ligament injuries and instability. It is only effective for these injuries, and stimulates the body to effectively heal itself through the inflammation pathways. It is not effective for pain syndromes of other types.
