Abcess: The short answer is yes, but it depends if there is still alot of pain involved or if it is draining. The abscess doesn't have to be completely gone but xrays and an exam from a dentist is needed.

Yes: The infection needs to be drained. That is basic medicine.

Yes: Sometimes an infection is so fluctuant that a drainage is required to reduce the bacterial count and allow the antibiotic to works better. I would suggest to start a root canal, remove the nerve to start the drainage, then temporized and continue and finish the antibiotic dosage. After that the root canal therapy can be finished with final obturation of the canals.
