Dental question.during root canal treatment is the cotton plug vital for proper healing and a successful rc outcome?my dentist seemed surprised the endo dident place one however at the time i dident think to question it. i have pain so i'm curious?

Cotton pellet with medication is placed between visits for an uncompleted procedure. Once a tooth has completed endo, no medication is needed but a dry pellet is usually placed to indicated the bottom of the chamber for the restoring dentist. It has no effect on post operative pain.

I don't place cotton pellets between the root canal and the crown appointment, just a strong temporary material. It is not needed but restoring dentists find it makes temporary removal less cumbersome.
