A member asked:

Is losartan a first line treatment for kidney disease in a diabetic,,,,no high blood pressure.....gfr 57, a1c 6.0....creatinine 1.35 bun 18?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Kidney disease : There is little support for blood pressure medication for patients with normal blood pressure in diabetes. Losartan is part of a class of several drugs called Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs), which is used to protect the kidneys with diabetes when someone has high blood pressure. the other class is ACE inhibitors which have the same protection.
