A member asked:

Does the specifity and sensitivity of a test depend on the population being tested?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, of course: It is a big reason why we should only do tests on particular patients who fit a patient profile that the tests were designed for. Also, the tests had to have been studied on the correct population, with reproducible results done by other scientists. For example, urine pregnancy tests are for patients suspected of pregnancy. If used on Kindergarten girls, 100% of positives would be false positives.
