Sigmoid resection: Bowel movements may not be normal for a few weeks as the shortened segment promotes looser stools postop. Avoid eating harsh roughage for weeks and introduce fiber gradually. Your surgeon will advise you about restrictions on working, driving, and other physical activities. Notify him/her if there is blood, inability to pass stool or unusual abdominal discomfort or wound issues.
