DVT: Yes, sometimes ultrasound can measure the clot. At times ultrasound will not be able to completely measure the extent of the clot because the entirety of the venous system cannot be visualized. Most of the time the specific size of the clot is not clinically relevant in that it does not affect treatment. An ultrasound is a snapshot in time and cannot predict what will happen in the future.
