Rectal mucus: Rectal mucus is usually not serious and may be associated with an irritable bowel. If there is associated anal or rectal pain, inflammation of the rectum may be the cause. If there are significant bowel disturbances consult a gastroenterologist. If symptoms are primarily anorectal discomfort, consult a proctologist.
