A member asked:

After trying to pass a stool with no relief i wiped and there was caramel colored discharge/mucus looking substance on the tissue. what could this be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mucus: This indeed was most likely mucus and because of associated straining there may have been a tiny amount of stool particles and blood products mixed in giving it that color. To avoid straining make sure that your diet contains adequate fluid and fiber. You can take a daily softener like colace (docusate sodium) and insert a glycerin rectal suppository if needed. See your MD if problems recur.
