Colitis: This is consistent with mucus colitis which could be due to irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease or an infection. The blood is nonspecific and can occur with any if these conditions or with associated hemorrhoids or anal fissure. Avoid harsh roughage, take kaopectate (kaolin and pectin) as needed for loose stools, but consult your physician if symptoms persist and appropriate tests with stool culture.
