DVT: DVT involves veins which carry blood from the legs. Arteries carry blood to the legs, so DVT cannot cut off circulation to the legs. It does impair drainage from the leg, hence swelling. It won't completely block venous drainage from the leg due to collateral channels and superficial veins trying to compensate.
