D-dimer: If d-dimer is below the cut off,it obviates the possibility of DVT. There is variation in numbers, based on whether you had a small bruise,minor cuts, reflux/gastritis( a source of elevated d-dimer as well), rheumatoid factor, liver disease ,pregnancy , rarely malignancy. An ovefilled tube would also increase th d-dimer,Would not worry

DVT: IF you have calf pain you should get a venus duppler of your leg. That way you can rule out a DVT.

D-DIMER not specific: D-dimer is significant when it is negative since it excludes clot formation. A positive d-dimer, however, is not diagnostic of a clot since it can be positive for other reasons. In a low risk patient with a negative d-dimer, the chances of a DVT are very low.
