Some basics: A virus commonly produces a rash & it usually becomes more intense as the virus is eliminated from the blood/tissues. Fever is the most dependable marker for virus activity & its fading usually points toward recovery. Vomiting may be related to either the illness or the resumption of appetite before the system is fully ready to process food. These are more often enteroviruses.

Hydration/Breathing: Secondary infections may occur and viral syndromes may linger 10-14 days. If the reason for the admission was related to respiratory distress, another chest radiograph may be ordered and the development of pneumonia assessed. In the hospital, hydration and fluid intake is typically monitored carefully.
