Menstrual cycle ?'s: A cyst on an ovary or even the surgical removal of an ovary will not affect your menstrual cycle, but at age 38, your cycle will vary secondary to the increased stimulation of your ovaries secondary to the age of your eggs, with ovulation in a "23 day cycle" probably occurring on day 7 or 8 in stead of day 12-14 as with a typical 28 day cycle.

Yes it could: Medications, birth control pills, hormones, or other reasons could also be the cause.
