New infection: I doubt that the diverticulitis and new infection are related. The latter has the hallmarks of a viral infection that may localize to the upper respiratory tract or gastrointestinal tract. Treatment at this time would be resting, taking in adequate fluids including flat,room temperature ginger ale, eating soft, bland solid foods with no spices or roughage and taking Tylenol for headache,aches
