I always treat 10 d: While there are some who prefer a shortened treatment course I always treat documented strep for 10 days. It is the duration of treatment that is most consistent with a cure & lack of recurrence. On the other hand if no strep test confirmed it to be strep, I would consider stopping since the complication of Rheumatic fever is not seen in infants who have positive strep.
