Cdiff and antibiotic: With a history of Clostridium difficile (Cdiff), it's important to work closely with an ID specialist or other specialist well-versed with treating Cdiff. Some studies suggest certain probiotics can decrease the risk of Cdiff, but there's not much information about using oral vancomycin (or metronidazole) to PREVENT Cdiff.

Why ?: If you have tonsillitis & any past history of C.diff, you should confirm that it is caused by strep A & if confirmed only use a narrow spectrum antibiotic like penicillin. Strep A is universally killed by penicillin & there is no reason for any antibiotic if it is not. Us of broad spectrum antibiotics like augmentin when simple meds will do is one reason people get into such trouble.
