Safe procedure: The small needle used to put the contrast into the joint will not damage the capsule. It is uncomfortable but not a debilitating pain (and very temporary). It would be a good idea to plan on not doing any physical activities with that shoulde for a couple of days to let the joint recover.

Not too painful, and sort of like a flu shot in the right hands. It will not damage the shoulder joint. I prefer that my patients have a driver on the day of the arthrogram, and severely restrict all activity the same day. Usually you can eat. That is all, and it is for your safety. The next day there are no restrictions based on the arthrogram.

Will share my experience as have had one. Not too bad during procedure, but shoulder will be stiff for a couple days. Would heed my colleagues' advice and take it easy for about 3 days. There will be no lingering adverse effects.
