Depends: A shoulder MRI takes images in multiple planes and with multiple techniques. Tears of the labral cartilage are best seen in the axial images, but can also be seen in the coronal and sagittal planes. That includes a Bankart injury . A tear of the superior labral complex such as a SLAP lesion is best seen in the coronal images, but can also be seen in the other planes.
