It depends: Each pound is 3500 calories. To lose 10 lbs your need to either consume 35, 000 fewer calories or burn up that many calories (or a combination of diet and exercise). A realistic goal is to be in negative calorie balance by 350 calories a day. It will therefore take 100 days (about 3 months).
