A member asked:

My partner had chest pains blood test showed troponin levels of 18000 he also has a tooth infection . has he had a heart attack?

Very elevated: Troponin is quite sensitive for myocardial injury. If that super elevated troponin was due to heart damage I would expect very obvious ekg changes as well as clear cut symptoms making a diagnosis of an acute myocardial infarction very obvious. I wonder if the blood sample was damaged and that hemolysis of the blood sample rendered an extremely high amount of troponin. The attending MD knows best

Chest pain: Infected teeth can be quite serious, allowing infection ion to spread via blood stream to other organs, inc lauding the heart. We are just now beginning to understand the Assoc nation between oral infections and inflammatory organ damage. See Dentist ASAP. Discuss other findings w Cardiologist.
