Diet and exercise: The optimal program for weight loss is a combination of dietary changes and regular exercise. Without regular exercise, your body will only burn calories at its rest "metabolic" rate. A program of daily exercise, starting gradually and then increasing, will increase your "basal metabolic rate" or the rate at which your body burns calories. Diets alone will rarely help you achieve your goal.
