Several treatments: PCOS is an important cause of androgen excess, menstrual irregularity, and cardiometabolic dysfunction in women. Treatments are guided by whether the patient is trying to get pregnant or not. First line treatments are lifestyle changes/weight loss and combined oral contraceptives. Antiandrogens (eg spironolactone) are added if necessary. The diabetes drug, metformin is also sometimes used.
