There is no: "preferred" time as far as I am aware...most people I know take the drinks on the run and consume them during the running, s stretching period or a "time out" Hope this is helpful! Healthy New Year! Dr Z

Not a good idea: Actually don't believe it to be a safe practice to consume energy drinks prior vigorous activity such as running. Running is already going to increase heart rate. Theoretically the stimulatory effect of energy drinks could adversely effect the heart rate beyond normally acceptable ranges.
