It depends: Need to find out that there is not a cancerous area in the thyroid. See if one area is producing the excess hormone or many areas. After these things are found, a treatment can be decided by a doctor and the patient.

Several options: The treatments come down to antithyroid drugs (eg. Methimazole), radioactive iodine (rai), or surgery. Each has advantages and disadvantages, and you should discuss with your endocrinologist. If you opt for surgery, make sure the surgeon is an experienced thyroid surgeon.
