A 42-year-old member asked:
If I have hyperthyroidism, should I go through with rai treatment?

Depends: Hyperthyroidism can be treated medically but treatment not always keeping patient at even level of thyroid gland hormone production. Two alternatives are surgery and radioactive ablation. The ablation does not involve anesthesia or risk of bleeding. Radiation treatment makes patient either hypo or athyroid. Everyday thyroid hormone supplements keep patient well controlled.
