A member asked:

Can a stone in ureter dissolve and goes away without passing out or it should pass by urine ( i am taking rowatinex and i have one small stone) ?

Likely needs to pass: While it is possible to dissolve certain types of stones(i.e. uric acid stones with urinary alklanization) it is much more likely that the stone will need to pass. Note that many patients are actually not aware of the final passing of the stone per urethra as it is NOT the painful event people expect

Agree with Dr. F.: Stone passing unnoticed is far more likely that it dissolving. To prevent recurrence, drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless. Have a healthy diet, exercise, drink plenty of water, have safe sex, and get HPV vaccine. Wish you good health! Nutrition: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/.
