Fireworks: There is a risk that the eardrum is ruptured. This would usually be associated with hearing impairment. There is an easy way to test. Have the child hold their nose and gently "pop" their ears (blow out against obstructed nostrils). If the eardrum is ruptured the effective ear will not pop as usual instead air with come out the ear and they will usually hear and feel the rush of air.

Won't effect flying: Popping an eardrum is possible, but wouldn't make a difference for flying. If a hole exists there won't be a pressure change felt going up or down. If it fits for your schedule this could be evaluated before or after the flight, if you decide to do so.
