A member asked:

Can you have pcos & its symptoms if you're thin & without any metabolic dysfunction? is it likely something else is causing similar symptoms instead?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

PCOS: Polycystic ovarian syndrome is caused by stress, weight gain, and suspension of the normal ovulatory function of the ovaries, with resultant cyst formation. If you periods have been absent or irregular, see your gyn physician for an exam and testing. The treatment would be low dose birth control (if no contraindications), weight loss and stress reduction.
