A member asked:

Can severe chronic stress for a few years cause pcos symptoms without actually having pcos?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

PCOS ?'s: PCOS is certainly affected by sustained stress (emotional, job or school, etc.) but "symptoms of PCOS" (which include lack of regular periods, occasional heavy bleeding, acne and other skin manifestations of increased testosterone) can occur without having polycystic ovarian syndrome. Infertility, and potential later abnormal cellular changes in the uterine lining are also associated with PCOS.
