Padding/ice: Bunions are a bone deformity which is caused by a foot muscle inbalance. If the pain is from your shoe rubbing the bump you can put padding around the bump and it will feel better. If the pain is in the large toe joint then a wider shoe with a stiffer sole will make it feel better. There are also surgical options. Please consult a Podiatrist for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Wear proper shoes: Bunions are not correctable without surgery but the symptoms associated with bunions can be controlled and relieved. Wider supportive shoes are essential. Often wearing a medical grade orthotic insert will control the foot motion to relieve stress on the bunion. Bunion toe spacers can also provide some relief along with anti-inflammatory pain medications both oral and topical.
