A member asked:

When i floss, i noticed i can push the floss below my gumline. is this normal or is it a sign of gum recession?

Extent: There is a 2-3mm cuff of tissue (gingival sulcus) around the crown of each tooth that floss will help clean. Greater than 3mm indicates a problem. See your Dentist/Hygienist for a periodontal examination and review of appropriate Oral Hygiene techniques. Used correctly floss is wonderful, used incorrectly can damage gums. Remember with floss and t'brush to be gentle but thorough.
