Rash/low fever: Rubella is often never symptomatic, but may have a characteristic rash that starts on the face & progresses to the body in a day. Rarely 1/6000 will develop an encephalitis that is scary. The 5mo may have some immunity if mom ever had it or was immunized, but it is a mild disease. The biggest risk for rubella is to a fetus. It can trigger abortion, hearing loss, heart defect, organ damage.
