Hyperglycemia: The cause of insulin resistance is not fully understood. It is thought to be due partly to genetic factors, including ethnicity, and due partly to lifestyle. If the body's insulin can not push the glucose inside the cells to produce energy for the body then you have insulin resistance in your hands . How do you know that ? You know that because the blood sugar level climbs above the normal.
