A member asked:

If a type 1 diabetic patient forgot to take insulin as prescribed by a doctor, what would happen?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not a good outcome: Patients with type 1 diabetes need insulin. If you forget one shot, your sugar will go up temporarily. Stop it entirely and you will get very sick and eventually die in a coma. Prior to the discovery of insulin, that is what happened. If you take insulin, but don't monitor much, you will not die from coma, but will get complications (eye, kidney, etc) more quickly.
