M.D. visit: If you are experiencing any change in the ability to look from side to side or up and down, please see the emergency room. If the eye is red and painful, also please go to the emergency room or call opthalmology. If you are otherwise well, and the lid is swollen, not red or painful, you may have localized inflammation eg from an insect bite. Try caladryl lotion on the lid and a cool compress
