Bronchitis: Most cases of Bronchitis are viral and do not require an antibiotic unless you are a smoker in which case you might have Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease COPD Chronic Bronchitis. In this case you need an antibiotic because it is probably bacterial and this will prevent it from causing a Pneumonia. For viral bronchitis you can try Robitussin DM, Guaifenecin or Mucinex or Mucicinex DM OTC
